A Mother’s Cure (2024) dir. Jayden Dial

Role: Production Coach and Producer

A Mother’s Cure is a coming of age fantasy about Abalene Johnson, a young girl approaching her eighteenth birthday and her initiation into the world of root magic. Guided by her mother and grandmother, she must learn to trust her purpose and step into her power as a healer. The film explores legacy, generational lessons, and the tension between fear and faith.

About Black Girls Film Camp

Black Girls Film Camp is a national nonprofit program that trains and supports Black girls in grades 6 through 12 as they produce their own short films. Each participant is paired with a professional mentor and receives hands on instruction in directing, writing, producing, and post production. The program gives young filmmakers the chance to develop their voice, tell their own stories, and complete a film from concept to final cut.

My Role

I served as the Production Coach and Producer for A Mother’s Cure during the 2024 camp cycle. My role was to assist the teen director, Jayden Dial, throughout the entire production process. I guided her through pre production planning, shot lists, scheduling, set management, and creative decisions. I helped shape the workflow on set and ensured that she had the support she needed to bring her vision to life.

As producer, I helped coordinate logistics, organize shooting days, and support the cast and crew. This project allowed me to mentor a young filmmaker while contributing to a story rooted in Black girlhood, magic, and generational healing.

We will create a world where there is an equitable representation of diverse stories in media, and those stories drive narrative and policy change for social transformation.
